Walking in my shoes
Goals: This project aims to utilize Virtual Reality (VR) technology to develop immersive, realistic experiences that promote empathy for elderly individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia in the Satakunta region. The primary goals include developing immersive VR content in Finnish language, conducting structured workshops, and promoting the integration of VR technology in healthcare and welfare settings.
Methods: Virtual reality will be used to create realistic and emotionally engaging experiences simulating dementia patients’ challenges. The experiences will be distributed to healthcare centers, care homes for the elderly, and used for educational workshops targeting students in the caregiving profession. A series of structured workshops will be organized to promote cognitive empathy and develop interventions that promote empathy.
Prospects of Application: Our project addresses the pressing regional challenge of an aging population and the need for improved care for dementia patients. The VR materials and workshops will enhance empathy and understanding among caregivers, students, and family members, ultimately improving the quality of care. The project aligns with regional initiatives and has the potential for positive societal impact.
