MUSTBE – Multidimensional storm water treatment in urban areas for cleaner Baltic Sea
Although countries around the Baltic Sea have taken measures for reduction of emissions of nutrients, hazardous substances, several priority hazardous substances and specific pollutants are still released to the environment through urban stormwater systems – not only nutrients (N, P), but increasingly oil products, metals (Lead and Copper), organic pollutants, microplastics and other substances of concern.
The common challenge of the Project Partners is to develop digital and technical solutions for multiobjective
stormwater planning and learn how to improve the efficiency of the urban stormwater treatment of abovementioned nutrients and substances.
The common territorial challenge of the project has multidimensional nature, which requires deep expertise in various aspects of stormwater management. Cross-border co-operation will ensure this, by producing significant technological innovation – new multi-benefit smart nature-based solutions in 7 pilot sites of 4 countries (1 in Tallinn, EE; 1 in Viimsi, EE; 2 in Pori, FI; 1 in Riga, LV; 2 in Söderhamn, SE) integrating the components of 1) purification and reuse of stormwater close to the source and 2) managing-controlling of the storm water fluxes during the rain events as well as monitoring of hazardous substances and toxins.
To achieve these results, Project will include series of logically interconnected work packages -Analysis and Design, Installation of New Solutions, and Monitoring of Pilot Investments.
