HEAL – Healthier life with comprehensive indoor hygiene concept
During the 10-year extensive research, SAMK, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has created a novel
working concept of indoor hygiene. The concept includes indoor air, surfaces, and water with scientific
results in reducing the microbial load. The novelty value of the HEAL project is the comprehensive indoor
hygiene concept which combines the effects of air, surfaces, and water. The current working concept is
extended with new technology, such as monitoring, machine vision and data analytic tools. The impact of
the new concept on sick days is the research question of the project. Hence, the research provides
knowledge and evidence on how the comprehensive indoor hygiene concept decreases the incidence of
infectious diseases. Other outcomes of the project are Living Lab pilot environments, a detailed checklist
and guidance of the best practices, technologies, solutions, and products of the comprehensive indoor
hygiene concept, new business opportunities for startup and growth entrepreneurs as well as healthier
every-day life. Project also launches an internationally recognizable and attractive Research Center for
Indoor Hygiene. In addition, innovation to reduce the transmission of infectious diseases inside buildings
will be an effective global tool against pandemics.
