Aimed specifically at international students, the event also introduced the new Rotaract Club to be established in Pori, which aims to bring together young adults to develop their leadership and cooperation skills and contribute to society through various service projects.

The Rotaract Club is part of Rotary International, an international organisation with 1.4 million members worldwide, of whom around 200,000 are active in Rotaract Clubs. The new Rotaract Club in Pori will focus on the participation and networking of young people aged 18–30.

Involvement of companies from Satakunta

The event, organised in cooperation between the Rotary Clubs and SAMK, is also an important opening for supporting the employment of international students. It opened new doors for SAMK’s international students, as the participating companies from Satakunta told the participants not only about the companies they represent, but also about various employment and other cooperation opportunities.

The opening speech was given by Marko Pakarinen, Managing Director of Meri-Pori Invest Ltd. He said that the business world has long advocated the importance of integrating international students coming to Finland.

– At the same time, the average age of members of organisations such as Rotary Clubs are increasing and recruiting new members is becoming even more challenging. The Rotary Clubs of Pori want to be involved in supporting the permanent settlement of international students in Satakunta by enabling cooperation between Rotarians, SAMK and companies in Satakunta, he said.

The event was attended by employers from Satakunta, including Porin Linjat, Meri-Porin Saha, Karhulinna Medical Centre, Red Cross Satakunta and Euroports Rauma. These companies represent a wide range of industries, from logistics and industry to healthcare and humanitarian work.

The event was the first of its kind. The Rotaract Club will be a key channel for participants to develop their networks in the Satakunta region.
