Are you writing a thesis? Need help finding information? INFOtelakka is a library service where our information specialists help SAMK students and staff in their search for information. You can get online support and make use of self-study materials. Book an appointment in advance.

Guidance for a SAMK student writing a thesis

You will receive an introduction to keywords, sources and search services for your topic, lasting about an hour.

Please contact your campus library or send email to infotelakka@samk.fi to book your INFOtelakka session.

Give us some background information:

  1. What is your degree programme and campus?
  2. What is the topic of your thesis?
  3. What kind of searches have you done on your topic: which keywords have you used and how have you combined them?
  4. Which search engines or databases have you used so far while searching for information on your topic?
  5. Do you have any special wishes for this INFOtelakka session?
  6. What time suits you? Suggest a few time slots, e.g. “Mon 21 Jan 10–15”, “Any time”, “Mon–Fri after 15.30”.

What is the difference between keywords and subject terms?

When talking about information retrieval, the terms keyword, search terms, subject terms, subject headings and others are used. They are also relevant at the final stage of the thesis, for example when writing the abstract. Learn the basics about keywords and subject terms.
